The inaugural batch at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi Abu Dhabi (IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi) will consist of 25 students, with both Emiratis and international students eligible to enroll. The master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability (ETS) is set to commence in January 2024.
Admission Process Overview
The admission process involves a comprehensive evaluation, considering qualifications, language proficiency, and academic performance. Prospective students need a four-year bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field, with a minimum CGPA of 7.5/10 or equivalent. Candidates with less than one year of work experience must achieve a minimum score in standardized tests, such as GATE or GRE, and take an additional admission test. Proficiency in English is required, with exemptions for those educated in English-medium institutions from English-speaking countries.
Program Structure
The two-year master’s program, spanning four semesters, offers specializations in ‘Technologies for Decarbonization’ and ‘Economics, Policy, and Planning for Energy Transition.’ The curriculum includes core subjects like energy systems modeling, economics of energy transition, and foundational engineering courses. The second year involves an industry internship and individual projects aligned with chosen specializations.
Campus and Faculty
The program will initially operate from a temporary campus near Zayed University until the permanent campus is ready. The interim campus will house specialized research centers focused on areas such as sustainable energy, climate studies, computing, and data sciences. Accommodations will be available on the campus. Faculty from IIT Delhi will be involved during the inaugural academic year, with plans to attract local expertise in subsequent years.
Career Prospects
The program addresses the growing demand for education and careers in sustainability in the UAE. Graduates are expected to excel in industries like clean energy technology, engineering, procurement, construction (EPC), and more. The alumni are poised to contribute to NGOs, think tanks, policy advocacy, startup ventures, and innovative energy solutions.
Future Programs
IIT-Delhi Abu Dhabi plans to expand its academic offerings, including bachelor’s, master’s, and PhD programs in various disciplines. Research centers will be established in critical areas such as Energy and Sustainability, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics, and other engineering and sciences disciplines, with specific timelines to be announced later.
