Dubai School girl Serah Thomas Inspires Global Environmental Pledge with Artistic Message.

Serah Thomas, a young advocate for environmental consciousness from Dubai, is on a mission to rally people around the world to clear our skies. Her compelling painting, titled “In Search of the Blue Sky,” portraying a world enveloped in smoke, garnered attention at Cop28, capturing the interest of attendees.

At her corner space, visitors were urged to imprint their thumb in white, symbolizing their commitment to ridding the skies of smoke. Impressively, participants from more than 30 countries engaged in her campaign, leaving Serah elated at the diverse support she received.

A fourth-grade student at St. Mary’s School in Dubai, Serah has actively participated in various sustainability initiatives and recycling campaigns within her school community. In an exclusive interview with Schoolers Digest, she expressed her passion for environmental advocacy, stating, “I am a dedicated Eco warrior who witnesses the daily impact of natural calamities like floods and droughts, and I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg.”

When asked about the inspiration behind her painting, Serah recounted her visit to COP 28 expo on the first day with her mother, where she witnessed the fervor of individuals from renowned companies dedicated to saving the planet. Motivated by their commitment, she felt compelled to contribute, emphasizing the need for responsible consumer behavior, especially among children.

Explaining her choice of painting as a medium, Serah stated, “I love painting, and I believe there’s no better way than art to show the hazy, smoke-filled skies of the major cities worldwide.”

Despite comparisons to climate activist Greta Thunberg, Serah humbly dismissed the label, asserting, “I am not a climate activist; I am just a young schoolgirl passionate about protecting our planet for future generations.”

Looking ahead, Serah revealed her aspirations “I want to build a website to educate school children about conservation and sustainability in a fun and engaging way”.

Notably, she hones her artistic skills under the guidance of the world-renowned realistic painter Onuoha Columbus.
